Research
The INc-UAB does advanced research in three major research areas. The purpose is to better understand how the nervous system works in order to improve the quality of life of people suffering from disorders or diseases and of society in general.
The nervous system is still a frontier of knowledge. Understanding the nervous system circuitry and inner workings at the molecular, biochemical, physiological and behavioral level will help understand human actions.
Horizontal Research Lines:
- Cognitive and behavioral Neuroscience
- Neuronal circuits and behavior
- Cellular and systems neurobiology
We live in an aging society, leading to an increasing prevalence of pathologies. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms, and their behavioral consequences of neuropathologies and their crosstalk with aging, will lead to novel treatments and improved health.
Horizontal Research Lines:
- Cell signalling
- Mental illness
- Neuroinflammation
- Molecular neurobiology and neuropathology
Increased healthspan requires developing new strategies to improve the function of an aging, or diseased, nervous system. Developing pharmacological, biological, and neurotechnological approaches to target specific diseases and conditions will lead to improved health and well-being.
Horizontal Research Lines:
- Translational research of neurological and psychiatric disorders
- Repair interventions in the neural systems
