Time Use Week 2026

From 19 to 21 October 2026, a new edition of Time Use Week will bring together researchers, policymakers and organisations for the leading international event dedicated to debate, research and public policy on the right to time and better social organisation of time. Under the theme “The Right to Time and Social Acceleration: Policies for Sustainable Well-being”, this year’s edition will explore the effects of social acceleration on paid work, care, circadian health, community life and public space, as well as the policies needed to ensure the right to time for everyone.

The main programme will take place in Barcelona and Bellaterra. On 21 October, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will host an in-person event in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology. The events at UAB are organised in collaboration with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with the active involvement of the Centre d’Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball (QUIT) - Sociological Research Centre on Everyday Life and Work, a research centre of the Institute for Labour Studies (IET), and the Centre for Demographic Studies (CED).

This year’s edition will feature international organisations such as the International Labour Organization, the United Nations and the Gates Foundation, as well as leading experts including sociologist Judy Wajcman, whose research examines the impact of technology on social acceleration, and economist Joan Costa-Font, whose work focuses on public health and the social factors affecting sleep quality. The programme will include lectures, debates, workshops and networking sessions bringing together representatives from academia, public administrations, social organisations and the private sector.

Hosting this event at UAB reinforces the Institute for Labour Studies’ commitment to research and knowledge transfer in the fields of work, time use and public policies aimed at promoting sustainable well-being. Those interested can consult the programme of the main events and register through the official Time Use Week 2026 website.
