The Vagó de la Ciència returns for its third edition with a focus on diversity
The UAB and FGC are launching a new edition of the Vagó de la Ciència, this year focusing on social diversity. The IET is involved in the project, with Vicent Borràs serving as scientific curator.
Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) have launched the third edition of the Vagó de la Ciència, a science outreach initiative that transforms a train carriage into a travelling space for sharing knowledge. This year’s edition focuses on social diversity and will run on the Barcelona–Vallès line throughout the 2025–2026 academic year.
Inside the carriage, passengers will find infographics and accessible content exploring topics such as human diversity, gender, gender-based violence, LGBTI+ diversity, religious diversity, ethnic diversity and racialisation, disability and accessibility. The project also continues its Seient de l’Especialista initiative, in which UAB researchers travel on regular services between Plaça Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma station, giving passengers the opportunity to meet them and discuss their research.
IET participation
In this edition, the IET plays a prominent role through the Centre d’Estudis Sociològics sobre la Vida Quotidiana i el Treball (QUIT). Sociologist Vicent Borràs, Professor in the UAB Department of Sociology and a member of QUIT, is the project’s scientific curator. He also features in an episode of the Vagó de la Ciència podcast focusing on gender and work, where he discusses gender inequalities in the workplace and current challenges in building a more inclusive society.
The theme of this year’s carriage is part of the UAB’s annual theme, “Unidiversitat. Tothom és UAB”, which celebrates plurality and diversity as fundamental values for both the University and society.
