Joan Checa Rius has been awarded the Salvador Giner Prize for Doctoral Theses, presented by the Philosophy and Social Sciences Section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans

On Thursday, April 23, the 2026 Sant Jordi Awards ceremony was held, marking the 95th edition of the IEC’s awards and scholarship program. The purpose of the awards is to recognize excellence in research and outreach across all fields of knowledge.

Joan Checa’s doctoral thesis, The Configuration of the Mediterranean Urban Macroregion. Territorial Integration in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Valencian Community Based on an Analysis of Settlement, Land Use, Spatial Use, Territorial Inequalities, and Public Perception, has been awarded the Salvador Giner Prize for Doctoral Theses.
