Roman city of Iulia Libica/Llivia

Castell de Cervelló

The archaeological site of the UAB Archaeology Campus at Llívia was inaugurated in February 2022, as a result of a project that began in 2013 with a collaboration between the City Council of Llívia, the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC) and the UAB. Since 2013, the forum of Iulia Libica -an ancient Roman municipality in the Pyrenees- is being excavated combining geophysical surveys and excavation.

This is an urban excavation, which also includes other possible sites within the municipality with Roman remains and above all the occupation of the hill of Puig Castell, where in addition to the modern and medieval castle, there are materials that indicate earlier occupations.

The project not only involves the excavation of Roman and pre-Roman remains, but also the adaptation of the space for public visitation in collaboration with the Museum of Llívia.
