ICTA-UAB researchers at the ESEE 2022 Conference

Several ICTA-UAB researchers will be participating at the XIV International Conference of the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE 2022), which will be held from 14- 17 June 2022 in Pisa (Italy) under the theme "Will Achiles catch up with the Tortoise?"

The conference intends to provide a forum for scientific debate and discussion on theoretical and practical issues to answer the following questions: Will politicians catch up with science and engaged civil society?,  What are the transformative actions to escape from the current unsustainable paths? 

Around 450 papers (out of 620 submissions) will be presented in about 50 sessions during the conference. The sessions are organized around the following broad themes: Transformations; Theory and new ideas; Teaching and communication; Resources; Policies; Institutions and power; Business and transition; Behaviours and social change; Alternative economies.

  • Thursday 16 June. Our senior researcher Mario Giampietro will be taking part as a guest speaker in the Plenary session 2- The future of energy. He will try to envision life and society in a Promethean III era. Would abundant and cheap energy be good news?
     
  • Friday 17 June. Our PhD candidate Lucía Muñoz Sueiro will be one of the guest speakers of the Plenary Session 4 – The art of communication: when knowledge is not enough.   • Friday 17 June at 16h. Ecological economist at ICTA-UAB Joan Martínez Alier will be one of the speakers of the closing lecture. The last event of the conference will revolve around the atmosphere prevailing in those years, but also on the achievements and failures towards sustainability and transformative actions for the future. The event will start with a Lectio Magistralis by Prof. Joan Martínez Alier, one of the founders and later President of the International Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE).
