Earlier research on different kinds of environmental issues show that gender configurations matter. Previously focus in relation to climate change has mainly been on how women in poor countries with small emissions per capita are affected by various power structures, of less interest has research in wealthy countries been; different forms of masculinities even less. This seminar will discuss how the figurations industrial-, ecological-, and ecomodern masculinities are enacted in the global climate change debate with examples from Sweden.

Dr. Martin Hultman is senior lecturer at Linköping University, Sweden. His research involves energy and environmental politics, environmental history, studies of science and technology and cultural analysis. As a scholar and citizen he is involved in global as well as local community environmental politics in forms of ecotourism, ridesharing and community work. He has coined the terms Ecomodern - , Industrial- and Ecological masculinity as well as Ecomodern utopia conceptualizing the current political status and identity formations.
