IX Caminhos da Arqueologia at COP30: Settlement, Dispersion, Colonization, and Adaptation to South American Environments
The occupation of the Americas has long been a central topic of debate in archaeology, both regarding the first settlements and the subsequent expansion, dispersion, and colonial contacts among Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans. This event provides a comprehensive overview of the occupation of South America from an integrated and transdisciplinary perspective, incorporating biology (genetics and ecology), archaeology (pre-colonial and post-colonial), social anthropology (Indigenous perspectives), and linguistics (origin and diversity of languages). It brings together researchers from various institutions in Brazil and abroad.
The event will feature three international keynote lectures, four roundtables, two discussion panels, and two poster sessions. It is part of the seminar series “Caminhos da Arqueologia”, organized by the Graduate Program in Anthropology (PPGA) since 2010. This year it is held in collaboration with the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), under the leadership of Professor Dr. Fabricio Rodrigues dos Santos.
The event is framed within the context of COP30 in Belém do Pará, addressing environmental and Amazonian issues from a perspective that combines both local and international dimensions.
