Description:

The Institute of Political and Social Sciences (ICPS) of the UAB and the Barcelona Provincial Council organise a session entitled "The Third Gulf War and the Future of International Order". The conference will take place on 24 March at 6:00 p.m. at the headquarters of the ICPS. The activity will discuss what factors have consolidated the third Gulf War and the consequences that the phenomenon brings to the development of the future of the international order.

The session will be led by Oriol Bartomeus, director of the ICPS, who will present the event. Eduard Soler, professor of international relations at the UAB and the Barcelona Institute of International Studies, and Oriol Costa, professor of international relations at the UAB and IBEI, will also speak. The event will be on-site and with limited capacity. To attend, it is necessary to sign up by filling out this registration form.

During the UAB's farmers' market, to be held on 25 March at 11:00 a.m., the Asian Day will be held at the UAB's Plaça Cívica, organised by the Community Involvement Unit and the Department of Culture. This annual avent aims to foster the wealth and diversity of Asian cultures. 

Different cultural activities will be offered, as well as the possibility of including new proposals linked to the first edition of the Week of Culture and Human Rights, which the UAB organises from 16 to 26 March. The initiatives aim to experience freedom of artistic expression and critical thinking, promoting participation and active commitment to the defense of human rights and culture.

On 25 March at 12 noon, the Faculty of Political Science of Sociology of the UAB organises a conference entitled "Angry populist politics: Why is it happening and what to do about it". The event will take place at the conference hall of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology and will be given by Ian Shapiro, professor at Yale University.

The session will address the causes of the rise of contemporary populism and analyse possible political and institutional responses to this global phenomenon. It will also offer an academic reflection on recent transformations in international politics and the current challenges of Western democracies.

On March 26 at 9:00 a.m., the Engineering Student Council, with the support of the management of the UAB School of Engineering, is organising the twelfth edition of "MEMEnginy 2026". This technology and engineering fair, which will take place at the School of Engineering itself, will bring together the business community and young talent from the Vallès region. Nearly 1,500 participants have registered, who will have the opportunity to interact with around 80 entities.

The event's main purpose is to connect students involved with the technological and industrial sector through conferences, networking activities and around 1,000 quick interviews scheduled throughout the day. The young students come from engineering degrees (computer science, electronics, telecommunications, data, AI and chemistry) and other specialised degrees such as computational mathematics, bioinformatics, business and technology, and interactive communication.

One of the innovative elements in this year's edition is the MEMEnginy HUB programme, which allows to connect the preferences of students and the demand of companies. It will also include the HP Inclusión MEME Impulse application, aimed at facilitating job insertion for neurodivergent students, as well as the presentation of a report from the Observatory of the School of Engineering on the work motivations of future engineers. Xavier Roca, vice-dean of the School of Engineering for Communication and Promotion of Entities, highlights the importance of the students in their professional growth, the challenges that arise and the possibility of being part of a positive work environment.

Ester Miquel is Serra Húnter lecturer at the Department of Basic, Developmental and Educational Psychology. She is member of the Centre for Studies and Research for an Inclusive Society (CERSIN) and the Peer Learning Research Group (GRAI), both at the UAB.

In the Science Carriage's Expert Seat, Ester Miquel will share the results of different projects and research, the results of a continuous research process, which provide us with data and reflections to help move towards a more inclusive education system, which takes into account all people.
