TED is an international community dedicated to disseminating ideas on different issues, usually in the format of short, informative talks. According to this non-profit organisation, they are “building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world’s most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas”. Following with this spirit of “engaging ideas”, the organisation is inviting different universities, entities and communities to organise their own TED events.

The TEDxUABBarcelona session will take place on 31 March 2022 at the UAB Auditorium (located at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities) and it will be an event open to the entire university community: academics and researchers, administrative and services staff, students and alumni. The UAB is specifically looking for six members of the UAB community interested in presenting an innovative idea or project, worth sharing with the global community for its transgressive or inspiring character. The presentation can cover any area of knowledge, and it must be explained in an informative manner to a non-expert audience.

A University committee will choose the six participants, and will be particularly interested in multidisciplinary proposals. Thus, according to the members of the committee, “we will be looking for nanotechnological artists, thermodynamic economists, medical architects, etc.”.

Those interested in becoming TED talkers will first be offered a course in communication skills and will also receive all the support and materials they need from the UAB to prepare their talk.
