Conference on tax fraud by Hervé Falciani to open the academic year at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies

Hervé Falciani
Hervé Falciani has become a leading figure in the persecution of tax fraud and evasion and currently works in different projects with fiscal authorities in Spain and the European Union. He will give this year's opening lecture at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies.

On 9 October, systems engineer Hervé Falciani will offer a conference entitled "Tax Fraud" in the official opening of the 2019/20 academic year. The event will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the conference hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies. The event will also include institutional speeches by UAB Rector Margarita Arboix and the faculty's Dean Héctor Sala.

Falciani is well-known for his role in the Swissleaks scandal (he contributed to revealing the mechanisms which helped identify 130,000 possible tax evasion cases; alongside this information, commonly known as the Lagarde List, he proposed a new management system for banks which could prevent tax fraud), and he has spent the past years as a consultant to governments, public administrations and NGOs.

He is particularly involved in anti-fraud and sustainable projects for public administrations or through European research projects. Since 2015 he participates in the "Trustless" projects which foster the traceability and veracity of information by applying the latest mathematical innovations in artificial intelligence. He is also a registered collaborator with the University Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IUMPA) in Valencia. In 2018, Falciani constituted a nonprofit association named Tactical Whistleblower, which works towards preventing conditions of fraud and corruption.
