Energy-related measures implemented

With regard to energy efficiency measures, six old chillers were replaced in 2025 with new units featuring heat pump technology, which are more energy-efficient. This work was carried out in the buildings of the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Communication Sciences, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the IGOP, the CBATEG and the Computer Vision Centre.

It is also worth highlighting other investments aimed at reducing energy demand through improvements to the thermal envelope of buildings, continuing with the replacement of windows and the improvement of roof insulation.

Finally, this year saw the commissioning of the photovoltaic installations for Phase 2 of the Medicine building and the SAF Sports Centre, contributing to increased renewable energy generation and the campus’s self-consumption of electricity.

Key energy efficiency measures from previous years

The most significant energy-related measures implemented in recent years are as follows.

  • Improvement of air conditioning systems (heating and cooling) by installing temperature-controlled valves and upgrading the management system.
  • Replacement of chiller plants with more efficient ones, as well as the refurbishment of boiler rooms.
  • Replacement of existing lighting with LED lighting in high-traffic areas of the buildings.
  • Partial replacement of outdoor lighting along the campus pathways with LED lighting.
