POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER - SOCIETAL CHALLENGE LAND (2021DILEUA30)

Salary: € 28,000-32,000, depending on experience and skills. Vacation days, parental leave and medical coverage included (according to the Spanish employment regulation and social security system).
Contract duration: 2 years, Full-time position.
ICTA-UAB is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop a research project related to the Societal Challenge LAND, which aims to analyze the combined effects of climate and other drivers of global environmental change on the sustainability of rural landscapes and livelihoods. The postdoctoral researcher will work in collaboration with the theme leaders (Victoria Reyes-García, Sergio Villamayor-Tomás) and is expected to connect the research agendas of existing groups at ICTA-UAB (e.g., via paper projects, small-group discussions, joint teaching and mentoring of students).
The post-doctoral fellow will undertake research on rural landscapes and livelihoods using a socio-ecological system approach aiming at “contextualized generalizations”, with a particular research interest on:
- The local manifestations of global change (e.g., climate change, international trade, demographic changes) and their interactions
- The capacity of rural communities to generate information and knowledge about global changes and their local impacts
- The capacity of rural communities to adapt through local resource, management institutions and social mobilization.
Qualification and skills
The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary profile and training in a related field of Societal Challenge LAND (e.g., Geography, Land-use science, Anthropology, Rural sociology) in at least one of the three degrees.
Required skills: Experience with data management and quantitative analysis techniques
associated to spatial analysis and visualization, Ability to communicate in English to
Desirable skills: Excellent publication record as appropriate for the career stage (with first author publications in reputable journals).
Valuable working experience: Teaching and student mentoring
