Members from the Oceans Asia organization have found thousands of used masks in uninhabited islands between Hong Kong and Lantau. This is one of the firsts environmental consequences caused by Covid-19. The founder of Oceans Asia, Gary Stokes, has explained in a video the concern about this situation.

Faced with this situation and considering the development in our territory, the FAS environmental voluntary program wants to raise the awareness about this issue and prevent that this situation occurs massively here:

Three recommendations are given to prevent a fact that will seriously harm the environment:

-Firstly, use a mask only if you really need it. This means that you have to get informed through official sources about in which situations the use of masks is really required. In this way, we could avoid generating waste caused by masks.

- Secondly, be sure to throw away your mask in a closed container or plastic. Masks are a medical waste with specifics classification and treatment due to turn into infectious material. They have to be thrown away in a regular container.

Finally, get involved by raising awareness among more and more people about the serious environmental consequences that come from the use of masks with the aim to take action  in a broader scale to receive more efficient results.
