Barcelona Deep Tech Summit
Description:
The leading congress in advanced tech startups, Barcelona Deep Tech Summit, is celebrating its third edition on November 5th, 6th, and 7th, integrated within the Smart City World Congress (SCEWC) at the Fira Gran Via. The synergy is strategic since it integrates the advanced technologies born in universities and research centres with the great challenges that cities face. Moreover, both axes of innovation and sustainability are shared, solutions for the future are brought closer to businesses, and the event focused on startups and spin-offs acquires a more international character.
The Barcelona Deep Tech Summit will focus on searching for solutions for four great global challenges: energetic transition and sustainability, industry 4.0 and mobility, digital health, and space. The congress will host expert sessions on these main goals and will announce them during the following months on their website.
Even more, the startup congress Deep Tech is adding five strategic partners: Aldea Ventures, IESE Business School, Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC), Mobile World Capital Barcelona, and Tech Barcelona, which will bring their knowledge and ecosystem to enhance the event's proposal and unify efforts in positioning Deep Tech as a strategic sector in the near future. Barcelona is already a European reference for deep tech startups, making up the biggest number, 13%, of the total number of businesses of this kind in the city, according to the consulting firm Deal Room.
Deep-tech startups have gone up by 10% in Catalonia, getting to 320 throughout the territory, according to the latest report by ACCIÓ. The same document highlights that, at this moment, they currently employ more than 2.300 people, and, according to the latest data, the volume of investment attracted by these start-ups reached €183 million in 2022.
In the new edition of the Summit, the investor community, as well as great corporations, will have a strategic role since deep tech start-ups require greater capital volume and investment, and the event is key to connecting with big businesses that want to incorporate their proposals into their businesses.
Barcelona Activa and five Catalan universities (UB, UAB, UPC, UPC and UOC) promote this event, as it is the epicentre of the deep-tech and scientific entrepreneurial ecosystem. They do so via a joint initiative called Barcelona Deep Tech Node, and the Barcelona Deep Tech Summit has the institutional support of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
