En el marc del projecte SMART-ER de l’ECIU University, el webinar presentarà una agenda de recerca per a la planificació urbana que serà implementada en el projecte New European Bauhaus Lighthouse Demonstrator NEB-STAR, de la Universitat d’Stavagner. L’objectiu és donar assistència a la població vulnerable de la ciutat noruega tot donant-los accés a les decisions de planificació urbana. Hi participaran els professors de la Universitat d’Stavagner Anders Riel Müller i Jens Kaae Fisker.

La segona edició del Bioblitz de la Universitat dona continuïtat a la iniciativa de ciència ciutadana per avaluar la biodiversitat del campus engegada l’any passat i permetrà ampliar el coneixement sobre els diferents ambients i organismes que conté el campus universitari. Es tracta d’una oportunitat única per aprendre metodologies per a l’estudi de la natura que sovint són difícils de conèixer de ben a prop. Les persones que hi participin poden col·laborar en el mostreig de diferents grups de plantes i animals sota el guiatge de persones expertes en biologia de camp, que els ensenyaran com estudiar els diferents tipus d’éssers vius.

El projecte està finançat per la FAS (Fundació Autònoma Solidària), en col·laboració de l’oficina de Medi ambient de la UAB.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY and EXPERTISE

Chelsey Geralda Armstrong is a historical ecologist and archaeologist specializing in ancient human land-use and landscape archaeology.She is Assistant Professor and Director of the Historical-Ecological Research Lab in Indigenous Studies at Simon Fraser University (Canada). She is conducting historical-ecological research in northern Ts'msyen and Gitxsan territories in so-called British Columbia with a focus on traditional resource and environmental management.
 
TOPIC of the KEYNOTE

Land-use scientists increasingly recognize that ecological and anthropogenic forces have long interacted in complex ways, forming many of the landscapes we observe today. For example, Indigenous peoples’ legacies of plant cultivation and management can have profound effects on contemporary forest structure and species composition long after such practices have ceased. Beyond the scientific bearing such research provides, documenting Indigenous land-use has become increasingly important as a legal benchmark for asserting Indigenous title and sovereignty over unceded territories. This presentation combines various lines of evidence from ecological and archaeological sources, allowing us to document Indigenous orcharding and forest management throughout British Columbia (Canada), while challenging still-held narratives about people and their contested homelands. Historical-ecological studies may be a pathway for challenging colonial super structures that continue to underpin land-use in Canada. This collaborative research reflects on Indigenous peoples’ land-use as having positive effects on the lived landscapes and supports descendant communities seeking to re-integrate land-based foodways and livelihoods in unprecedented times.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY and RESEARCH INTERESTS

Enrica De Cian is Professor in Environmental Economics at Ca’ Foscari University  (Italy) and ERC Starting Grant grantee with the project ENERGYA – Energy use for Adaptation (www.energy-a.eu). She coordinates Ca’ Foscari’s PhDin Science and Management of Climate Change.  She is deputy coordinator of the research unit on Economic analysis of Climate Impacts and Policy at Fondazione Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) in Italy. 

She has collaborated with several research organizations in Europe (CEPS, ZEW) and in the US (JP at MIT, Boston University). In 2012, she was a visiting researcher at BU funded by the European Commission Global Marie Curie Research Fellowship. She has published in the fields of climate change economics, integrated assessment modelling, and energy economics.
 

TOPIC of the KEYNOTE

Climate change impacts are widespread, and billions of people are exposed to the risk of extreme heat events. As never before, the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC addresses the challenges of climate change in a world already undergoing some of the most rapid and significant societal and environmental changes in decades. Adaptation to climate change is one of the biggest challenges, especially if considering that the solution space is constrained by cultural, institutional, socioeconomic conditions, as well as by the risk of maladaptation.  In this talk I will present new results from the ERC-funded research project – ENERGYA – that has examined a leading example of a potentially dangerous form of adaptation, the adoption and utilization of air-conditioning. The presentation will go through three papers covering developed and developing countries.

La segona edició d’ExperimentAI, el projecte de ciència ciutadana del Centre de Visió per Computador (CVC) per experimentar amb la intel·ligència artificial a les biblioteques públiques, compta amb 8 jornades divulgatives, dirigides a un públic general, i tenen lloc entre els mesos de maig i setembre.

La primera sessió, titulada “L’emprovador de roba del futur” permetrà als assistents descobrir com funciona la tecnologia i la intel·ligència artificial en el context de provar-se peces de roba i deduir quina és la talla més adequada a cada persona. La sessió interactiva comptarà amb un provador virtual perquè els assistents puguin viure aquesta experiència. Els eixos temàtics de la sessió són la cultura, la comunicació i l’educació, la indústria sostenible i medi ambient i les dones fent IA. Per accedir a la sessió cal inscripció prèvia.

El projecte és impulsat pel CVC amb el suport de la Fundació Espanyola per la Ciència i la Tecnologia (FECYT) i el govern d’Espanya. A més, compta amb la col·laboració del Consorci de Biblioteques de Barcelona i la Xarxa de Biblioteques Municipals de la Diputació de Barcelona.

Els eixos temàtics de la sessió són la cultura, la comunicació i l’educació i les dones fent IA. Per accedir a la sessió cal inscripció prèvia.
