Chiara Bottici, first Serra Húnter Distinguished Professor to join the UAB

The Catalan Government's Serra Húnter Plan offers these contracts to universities. They are intended to cover high-level teaching, research, transfer and leadership needs. Each contract lasts five years and, after this period, the person can opt for a contract as a Serra Húnter lecturer.

Chiara Bottici is philosopher and critical theorist. From 2010 to 2026 she taught philosophy at The New School in New York City, where she also directed the Gender and Sexualities Studies Institute, a centre she co-founded. She is author of twelve books, including: Imaginal Politics: Images beyond Imagination and The Imaginary (Columbia University Press 2014), A Philosophy of Political Myth (Cambridge University Press 2007), Anarchafemminism (Bloomsbury 2021), and A Feminist Mythology (Bloomsbury 2021). She is also co-author of Imagining Europe: Myth, Memory, Identity (Cambridge University Press, 2013) and The Myth of the Clash of Civilizations (Routledge, 2010) with Benoit Challand. She was also co-editor of The Politics of Imagination (Routledge, 2011), and Feminism, Capitalism and Critique (Palgrave 2017).

She has also contributed with articled in the Journal of Political Philosophy, European Journal of Social Theory,  European Journal of Political Theory, Philosophy and Social Criticism, Constellations: An International Journal of Critical and Democratic Theory and Globalizations.

Her work has been translated into a dozen languages ​​and in 2023 she received the New School Outstanding Achievements in Social Justice Teaching Award, as well as 32 other awards for co-authoring the libretto of Menstrual Rosary (2021), in addition to receiving the Civic Liberal Art Grant by the Mellon Foundation in 2018.
