UAB lecturer Lupe Romero and Education and Gender Group awarded by the Government of Catalonia

The Government of Catalonia has awarded the Jaume Vicens Vives distinction, M. Encarna Sanahuja Yll 2025 mention, to Lupe Romero Ramos, lecturer of the Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies. The award was also given to the Education and Gender Group of the UAB. The awards recognize excellence in the inclusion of the gender perspective in university teaching practice. They will be awarded on Tuesday 7 October, within the framework of the official inauguration of the 2025/26 academic year of the Catalan university system, which will take place at the University of Barcelona.

The official inauguration ceremony of the 2025/26 Catalan university academic year will take place at the University of Barcelona on 7 October. At the event, the individual award will be given to lecturer Lupe Romero Ramos, and the group award will go to the UAB Education and Gender Group. At the same event, six Jaume Vicens Vives awards will be given to lecturers and university projects in recognition of their teaching quality, in addition to the M. Encarna Sanahuja Yll mentions for excellence in the inclusion of gender perspective in university teaching practices.

UAB lecturer Lupe Romero Ramos, from the Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies (DTIEO), will be awarded for her excellent and extensive career as a lecturer and researcher; for the inclusion of gender perspective in teaching, mainly for language and translation teaching staff as well as in the institutional field; for her outstanding scientific contributions, relevant in research on gender studies in the field of translation studies, and for prominently promoting equity in the classroom, with inclusive language and equality in group work.

The UAB Education and Gender Group is an action-research project that works to eradicate the acritical assumption of patriarchy and introduce the gender perspective to the entire educational community of the Faculty of Education. It is made up of lecturer and students from the Department of Education and Social Pedagogy of the UAB.

The award is conferred onto her in recognition "of contributing to research to transform knowledge, practices and educational structures from an intersectional feminist perspective, and for incorporating the gender perspective into all areas and sectors of the educational community, with actions at multiple levels of the educational system and beyond university teaching; for being a consolidated reference in critical reflection on the gender dimension in educational institutions, and for becoming a transversal impact on teaching, research, knowledge transfer, continuing education and institutional transformation processes".

The Jaume Vicens Vives awards, created in 1996, aim to recognise the quality of university teaching The M. Encarna Sanahuja Yll mentions, now in their fifth year, recognise excellence in the inclusion of a gender perspective in university teaching practice.

The awardees, who have been selected based on proposals made by the social councils of public universities or by similar bodies of private universities in Catalonia, receive a prize of 20,000 euros each. This amount must be allocated to projects of innovation or teaching improvement, in the case of the Jaume Vicens Vives awards, and to projects of innovation or teaching improvement from a gender perspective, in the case of the M. Encarna Sanahuja Yll mentions.
