The Library of Medicine incorporates two special collections

The Medical Library has acquired the Cristóbal Lamote de Grignon and Ravetllat Pla collections, two collections of particular interest for the study of the history of medicine, scientific research and the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Catalonia during the 20th century.

Tuberculosis and pharmacology: the Ravetllat Pla Institute collection

The Ravetllat Pla journal collection brings together periodicals published by the historic Ravetllat Pla Institute, an institution linked to the research and development of treatments for tuberculosis. The collection includes issues and complete runs of titles such as the Boletín Médico Ravetllat Pla and the Revista de Tisiología, which constitute a documentary source of interest for studying the dissemination of knowledge and treatments against tuberculosis, as well as the development of bacteriology and veterinary medicine during the first third of the 20th century.

Neurology and anthropology: the library of Dr Lamote de Grignon

The Cristóbal Lamote de Grignon Collection preserves the bibliographic legacy of the physician and neurologist Cristóbal Lamote de Grignon (1913-2006), considered one of the pioneers of neuropaediatrics in the Spanish State. The collection comprises nearly 1,500 volumes specialising in neurophilosophical anthropology, cognitive science, psychology and paediatric neurology. The library's thematic diversity reflects Lamote de Grignon's interest in approaching the study of the human brain and mind from a perspective that combined clinical practice with philosophical reflection.

With the addition of these two collections, the Library of Medicine strengthens its specialised bibliographical heritage and facilitates access to documentary sources of great interest for research in the history of science and medicine.
