The Humanities Library and the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts will launch a new joint initiative next Monday, the 11th, focused on promoting research and scientific output related to their academic fields. The initiative aims to establish a regular series of book presentations featuring works by faculty researchers and other publications of interest to the university community.

The first event in the series will take place from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Periodicals Room of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts and will be devoted to the book Peer Interaction in the Foreign Language Classroom, by Elisabet Pladevall-Ballester, lecturer in the Department of English and German Studies at the UAB. The event will also feature Prof. Alexandra Vraciu, from the University of Lleida, and the institutional introduction will be delivered by the Dean of the Faculty, Margarita Freixas.

The book offers a timely and rigorous analysis of peer interaction in foreign language learning. Drawing on empirical research, the volume examines how collaborative classroom dynamics can help improve linguistic competence, communication skills and students’ active participation.

The book also highlights the pedagogical potential of peer work and its role in the construction of knowledge in educational contexts. In this regard, it represents a significant contribution for both teaching staff and researchers in the field of language teaching methodology.

Elisabet Pladevall-Ballester is an associate professor and current director of the Department of English and German Studies at the UAB. Her research focuses on second language acquisition in children and adults, particularly in bilingual immersion contexts and CLIL programmes.

The event is open to the entire university community.
