Evolution of the relationship between women and the judicial system in Spain through the republic, the Franco regime and democracy
To mark International Women's Day, the Social Sciences Library presents this bibliographic exhibition, from March 6 to April 16, illustrating how women's rights in Spain have changed over time.
The exhibition does not aim to provide an in-depth legislative study but rather an informative overview showing how women's rights—and the law concerning women—have evolved according to the historical and political context.
The exhibition covers different historical periods and explains how the law has shaped women's daily lives: from legal dependence within marriage to access to voting rights, divorce, formal equality, and new safeguards against discrimination and violence.
The selection of books and documents helps to understand that rights have not always progressed in a straight line: there have been victories, setbacks, and new goals that have redefined the role of women in society.
