The UAB campus libraries have organized a series of activities to commemorate and advocate for 8M, International Women's Day:

Social Sciences Library:

  • From March 6 to April 16: Bibliographic exhibition “From Minors to Citizens: The Long Road to Justice”: the exhibition connects three key stages—the Republic, the Franco era, and democracy—to understand how the relationship between women and the judicial system has evolved.

Science and Technology Library:

  • From February 2 to March 8: Bibliographic exhibition “Women Scientists divulge Science! (2026 Edition)”, featuring literary and outreach proposals written by or about women in science. It is located in the BCT Space and in the “Science to Read” section of the General Room, and will be detailed on our Bluesky account.
  • From February 10 to March 13: Exhibition “Women Scientists in the Quantum Revolution”, organized by the BCT in collaboration with ICREA researcher Anna Sanpera of the Quantum Information Group (GIQ) at the Department of Physics, UAB.

Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives:

  • From March 2 to April 30: Photographic exhibition “They will not have the comfort of our silence again”, by M. Àngels Benítez, on loan from AFOCER (Cerdanyola-Ripollet Photo-Cinema Association). Photographs of the March 8 demonstrations, emphasizing the protest slogans carried by the demonstrators on signs, T-shirts, etc. The exhibit is located in the library lobby (ground floor).
  • In the evenings from March 2 to 9, the library's facade will be lit up in lilac, at the suggestion of the UAB Equality and Diversity Service.
  • March 9, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM: Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics Workshop, to learn the technique of activating the abdominal area with decompression of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis in different postures and movements. Free activity for the entire UAB University Community, organized by the SAF. Please bring a towel or mat. The activity will take place in the Study Room of the Communication and General Periodicals Library, on level -1. Registration: https://uab-cat.libcal.com/event/4514373
  • From March 18 to 20: Feminist Role-Playing Games Days with the UAB Role-Playing Club (CRUAB). The library will host 5 role-playing games, led by CRUAB game masters. No prior experience is necessary! Check the schedule and synopsis for each game and register on the Role-Playing Games at the Library page.

Humanities Library:

  • Feminism Exhibition: The Humanities Library is organizing a bibliographic exhibition on feminism during March and April. The selection of bibliographic materials was made jointly by the Library and the Community Outreach Service of the Faculty of Arts. You can find it in the elevator area of the Library building.
  • The Humanities Library has created an interactive quiz titled “8M: Women Who Leave a Mark” to test—and expand—your knowledge of women who have transformed the history of art, literature, music, thought, science, and cinema. You will find questions designed to highlight often-invisible female role models and help you discover new works, ideas, and voices.

Medical Library:

  • From March 6 to April 17: “Do You Know Women Who Have Made Outstanding Contributions to Health?” Exhibition. The Agora Space of the Medical Library is hosting this free exhibition to discover the legacy of figures such as Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie, Gertrude B. Elion, Rosalind Franklin, Dolors Aleu, and Isabel Zendal. The exhibition is a necessary recognition of the transformative role of women in the health sciences.

Veterinary Library:

  • From March 9 to 16: An exhibition on the life of Josefina Castellví (Barcelona, 1935 — 2026). Oceanographer and marine biologist. She was one of the first women to direct a scientific institution in Spain, a pioneer in marine bacteriology research, and the first to lead a scientific base in Antarctica. The Library's new multipurpose room will be named after her.
