Arxiu Sonor de la Ràdio a Catalunya renews its image

The Arxiu Sonor de la Ràdio a Catalunya updates its homepage with a renewed interface and more dynamic content. Among the new features, the section Stories of the Radio stands out, allowing users to explore the contents through brief narratives linked to a specific theme. In addition, several accessibility enhancements have been introduced, both in navigation and in the playback of sound excerpts, including the possibility of adjusting the audio speed according to each user’s needs.

With regard to consultation, the most significant new feature is the incorporation of a faceted search engine, which allows free-text searches and, once the results have been obtained, their refinement through various filters, such as the year of broadcast, the time range, the programme or the station. This tool greatly facilitates navigation through the Archive’s contents, which currently comprises close to 15,000 records.

The Arxiu Sonor de la Ràdio a Catalunya was presented in February 2022 as a result of the collaboration between the Institute of Communication ((InCom-UAB)) and the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives of the UAB. It is a non-profit initiative, with a public service vocation, which brings together a sample of Catalan and Spanish radio stations present on the broadcasting bands in Catalonia from 1925 to the present day. It forms part of the digital project of the Observatory of Communication in Catalonia (OCC InCom-UAB) and, since 2025, has benefited from the collaboration of the Xarxa Audiovisual Local and the Federació de Mitjans de Comunicació Locals de Catalunya.
