The UAB Humanities Library presented recent progress in digitising the Liceu Historical Archive, highlighting the Artús collection by Amadeu Vives and over 17,000 documents now online.

On Tuesday 17 June, the annual conference on the Historical Archive of the Society of the Gran Teatre del Liceu was held at the Montserrat Caballé Hall of the Cercle del Liceu.

This year’s discussion focused on the latest phases of digitisation and open access publication of the Archive, as well as its future direction. In 2024, administrative documents, musical scores, and printed programmes were digitised—most of which are now catalogued and available through the UAB Digital Document Repository (DDD). Particularly noteworthy is the collection related to the opera Artús by Amadeu Vives, including scores, libretto, costume designs, administrative records, and correspondence.

Current Archive statistics:

  • 17,372 catalogued and published documents

  • 2,228 works (operas, concerts, etc.) with associated materials

  • 3,029 identified names of individuals, organisations, companies, etc.

Since its launch, the Archive has recorded nearly 925,000 views and 600,000 downloads

In 2025, digitisation efforts continue. Alongside administrative and financial records and musical scores, a major collection of posters is being added. All this material will soon be accessible to the public.

At the presentation, the Humanities Library shared this progress and highlighted the richness of the collection. This year, the event also offered a journey back to 1925, recreating a night at the opera through the advertising featured in that season’s printed programmes.
