A study coordinated by Dr Francesc Jiménez-Altayó, researcher at Institute and CIBERCV, shows that temporary lack of blood flow to the brain can lead to lasting changes in the small arteries of the abdomen in rats with high blood pressure. The research also explored the effects of a drug called SAHA in mitigating these changes, finding that it prevented some early alterations in the arteries and reduced long-term brain damage

The XI edition of the Institut de Neurociències retreat brought together nearly 150 members of the Institute at Hotel Eden Roc for three days of scientific exchange. Through engaging talks and poster sessions, the event served as a platform to share research, spark ideas, and foster collaborations.

The Alzheimer’s Association will fund a project led by Dr. Arnaldo Parra-Damas to study molecular changes in inhibitory neurons that occur in Alzheimer’s disease.

The research, published in the journal Gut, associates the presence of certain types of bacteria within the gut microbiome with an increased risk of this disorder. Read the article

The third edition of the Translational Neuroscience Workshop was held, a joint initiative by I3PT and the Institute aimed at promoting collaboration between clinical and basic research groups.

On Friday, September 27th, the European Researchers' Night was celebrated across Europe, and researchers from the Human Laboratory and the Neuroplasticity and Regeneration Research Group participated in the event

Next September 16, a group of students of the Official Master's in Neurosciences 2023-2024 will present their final projects. It will be from 9:00 a.m. on, in classrooms C5/016 and C5/018 of the Biosciences building. We attach the list of presentations.

A study led by Drs. Emma Puighermanal and Albert Quintana, and published in the journal Nature Communications, demonstrates in animal models how daily administration of cannabidiol (CBD) extends lifespan and improves symptoms associated with Leigh syndrome. The research group also demonstrated in both mice and fibroblasts from children with the disease that CBD improves cellular function.
