High schools visit the UAB

The participating high schools at the High School Debating League are geting prepared for the local phase at the UAB. The phase will start on February 21st.

The participating students at the High School Debating League of 2018 are getting prepared for the local phase that starts on February 21st. The High School Debating League is a competition organized by the Catalan university network. The number of high schools registered for this edition, a total of sixteen, has increased. Last year there were eleven high schools. The Debate League promotes the dialog amongst high school students.

Last Friday the 19th January, a total of eleven high schools participated in an informative session at the Sala Teatre in the university, where the vice-rector of Students and Employability, Sara Moreno, welcomed them. During the speech, the vice-rector highlighted that the debates allow students to contact with the university for the first time.

The session was in the charge of David Gutiérrez, PhD in Social and Labour Rights. Gutiérrez gave guidelines to the students in giving speeches and debating based in his personal experience and explained the structure of the Debate League. The scenario was the same that there will be at the debates. Tables for the teams and the judges. This scenario livened up the session.

The training of the captains and the raffle to know the positioning the first phase was on Thursday the 25th of January, a week after the informative session. This edition, the topic is: “There is a limit for humour?”. The winners will pass to the final, from April 11th to April 13th in the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
