Five UAB students among the world's silver medalists in water polo

Five members of the Spanish water polo team – which recently won the silver medal in the World Championships held in Budapest – are UAB students who form part of the Tutoresport Programme: Anna and Clara Espar, Beatriz and Matilde Ortiz and Laura Ester.

The "warriors", as they call themselves, were Olympic silver medalists in 2012, world champions in 2013 and European gold medalists in 2014.

Anna Espar Llaquet, who scored 3 of the 6 goals in the final match against the US, studies the bachelor's degree in Business Management and Administration; her sister, Clara Espar Llaquet, is studying Tourism; Beatriz Ortiz Muñoz studies Audiovisual Communication; Matilde Ortiz Reyes studies Journalism; nd the team's goalkeeper, Laura Ester Ramos, considered to be one of the best players in the world, studies Biochemistry.

All of them study under the Tutoresport Programme, created by the UAB to give support to elite athletes enrolled at the UAB.

All five athletes are members of the Spanish water polo team who on Friday 28 July won the silver medal in the World Championships, in a final match against the United States, in which they lost 13-6. The team trained by Miqui Oca reached the finals after winning the semi-finals match against Canada by 12-10.

The Spanish female water polo team won the Olympic silver medal in 2012, the gold medal in 2013 and the European gold medal in 2014.
