Cold War exhibition at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting

The exhibition "La Guerra Fría: Causas - Historia - Consecuencias" will be on display at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting until 2 March and was inaugurated by German Consul General in Barcelona Rainer Eberle.

The upheaval in today's international relations have caused specialists to speak with increasing frequency of the possibility of a new 21st century cold war. These current events are therefore a good reason to look back at the period between the end of the Second World War and the fall of the soviet Union (1945-1991). The exhibition covers the causes of the Cold war, the nuclear arms race, the ideological, political and military conflicts of the period and the conflict resolution strategies of the 1970s and 1980s.

 The different panels remind visitors of the crucial episodes of that period: the Berlin Blockade of 1948, the Federal Republic of Germany becoming a NATO member seven years later, the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, etc. It also shows the different responses to the Cold War, such as the non-aligned movement, protests against the arms race and agreements signed to limit nuclear testings.

The exhibition has been organised jointly by the Berlin Center for Cold War Studies and the PSUA Foundation for Dictatorship Studies, and was brought to the UAB by the German Language and Culture Area of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting and the Consulate General of Germany in Barcelona.
