Performance "Anem" and "Ten to Ten" by the UAB Dance Classroom
Description:
The UAB Dance Classroom presents two performances on May 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the UAB Theatre. To start, the students of Contemporary Dance Level 1, under the direction of Mario G. Sáez, will perform the piece they have been working on over the past few months. Anem is a performance based on moving forward despite difficulties, continuing in the face of challenges, and doing so through dance. Anem seeks to move ahead “by creating a new way to communicate,” letting imagination “capture” the audience’s gaze.
Next will be the turn of the students from the Contemporary Dance Level 2, who have collectively created the piece Ten to Ten. Directed by Laia Santanach, this performance creates a space with ten personalities, ten viewpoints, beginning a journey that ends at the same starting point but from a new perspective. As Santanach explains: “In many traditions, the number ten is sacred, symbolising the perfection of the manifested universe and the culmination of a journey. Ten holds many meanings, including perfection, goal fulfillment, transformation, the end of one cycle, and the beginning of a new one.”
