Environmental Volunteering programme picks up 83kg of trash in UAB’s forest in less than 2 hours
On March 11th, the Fundació Autònoma Solidària’s Environment Programme volunteering team held a trash pick-up activity in a forest near UAB’s Vila, with the collaboration of UAB’s Environment Office and Vila universitària. Around twenty volunteers picked up a total of 83kg of all sorts of trash (plastic, containers, glass, paper, cardboard, etc.) in approximately two hours (from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.).
The collecting action was followed on the next day by the creation of an activist sculpture. This figure was built using the picked trash as material with the aim of raising awareness on the topic throughout the whole campus and especially on people living in Vila.
This activity was organized within the framework of the Let’s clean up Europe campaign, which organizes actions throughout all Europe in order to raise awareness and restore natural spaces. This campaign, managed by the Departament de Territori i Sostenibilitat in Generalitat de Catalunya and the Agència de Residus de Catalunya, puts on the European political agenda the amount of waste we uncontrollably and illegally throw into forests, beaches, rivers, etc.
