How to park in the Plaça Cívica

All members of the Campus Community with a UAB or UAB Sphere card  can use the car park. However first you need to activate the card for this purpose. To do so go to the Logistics Support and Information Point of your place of work or study. It will be possible to access with proximity reade, through new UAB app, when it is available.

To ensure that the car park functions smoothly in benefit of the university community, a set of operating rules has been drawn up.

It is essential that everyone who uses the service follows the rules as well as the road traffic rules and signs to ensure this smooth operation.

Not respecting the rules means that the car park cannot operate properly to the nuisance of other users of the service. Anyone who repeatedly fails to respect the rules will have their card deactivated for this car park. Parking outside the permitted areas (pedestrian zones, spaces for people with reduced mobility or loading and unloading areas) will also lead to deactivation of the card for this car park.

Everyone is responsible for the efficient operation of this car park. That’s why we need everybody to be involved in respecting the rules and not causing a nuisance to others.

So that we can achieve our objectives the car park in the Plaça Cívica is considered a rotation car park (you have to enter and leave the car park every day and not use it as a garage), reserved for the university community and there is capacity control.

That way we try to guarantee maximum equality of opportunity for using it.

You cannot reserve a place and so places fill up as people arrive.

The capacity of the car park is 242 places.

The system counts the cars going in and coming out of the car park.

Information about whether there are spaces or no spaces is shown on electronic signs at the entrance.

The car park is open every day of the year from 6am to midnight.

At midnight the barriers are locked down every day of the week except Saturdays that are not public holidays.

On Saturday that are not public holidays access is from 9am to 9pm. Any cars remaining after 9pm can only leave by calling the Campus Security Service (93 581 25 25) who will open the barrier manually.

To guarantee maximum equality of opportunity for accessing the car park, the maximum continual period you are allowed to stay is 16 hours. That avoids many places being continually occupied by cars using the car park as a garage.

The car park has a limited capacity. The system counts the cars going in and coming out of the car park. So that your car can be counted you must use your card to enter and drive past the barrier.

The barrier will not open unless you put your card close to the reader just before it every time you enter and leave the car park.

If you try to take advantage of the carrier opening for the car in front you will not be able to leave because the system will not have registered you as entering. If you leave without using the card the system will think that you are still in the car park and will not let you in the following day.

To enter the car park, you must wait until the barrier is completely lowered before you use the card to enter,. If you use the card before the barrier has completely lowered after the entry of the car in front the system will not register your entry and the barrier will continue to go down. It will not open until you use your card again once it has completely lowered.

These kinds of misuse will mean that the place counter does not work properly and could lead to the sign saying that there are places or no places available when in fact the opposite is the case.

You must not use different cards to enter and leave the carpark.

Also ensure that you park within the lines of the places painted as such to avoid occupying more than one space.

Once the maximum stay of 16 hours has passed the system automatically register the car as having left the carpark. So if you leave your car in there more than 16 hours you will have to call the Security Service (93 581 25 25) who will come and open the barrier manually.

The purpose of this is to avoid people using the carpark as a garage or trying to access the carpark without using the card. This also avoids people who for whatever reason do not use their card to leave and so their place counts as an occupied space the next day when in fact they are not there. The next day you can still enter the carpark as long as your entrance was registered more than 16 hours ago.

a) If you cannot gain access to the car park it could be for a number of reasons:

Carpark full. This is indicated on the electronic sign at the entrance. You will have to find a space in another area of the campus, leaving the entrance lane by the slip off lane to the left or wait until a place becomes free, as long as you do not obstruct other users of the service.

You did not use your card to leave the carpark the previous day and the system thinks you are still inside. You could wait until 16 hours have passed since you last entered the carpark. After this period the system automatically registers you as having left and so you will be able to get in again.

Card not valid. If your chip is damaged or the card has expired, or you do not have the latest version, or if you need to activate the card, etc. You will have to go to the Logistics Support of your place of work or study and they will tell you what to do.

Card disabled. If you continually fail to respect the rules of use or the highway code or if you park in unauthorised places your card will be disabled for this carpark.

b) If you cannot leave the carpark for different reasons:

You didn’t use your card to enter and the system has not registered your entry.
In this case park your vehicle and call the Security Service (93 581 25 25) who will come and open the barrier manually.

Card not valid. If your chip is damaged or the card has expired, or you do not have the latest version, or if you need to activate the card, etc. You will have to go to the Logistics Support of your work or study place and they will tell you what to do.

You have exceeded the maximum period of 16 hours’ stay. In this case park your vehicle and call the Security Service (93 581 25 25) who will come and open the barrier manually.

c) The electronic signs says FULL but you can see free places:

Some people may have left without using the card and the system thinks they are still in the car park.
The system will recognised these places as being free after the 16-hour period from the time they entered has passed.

Some people have parked in placed that are not meant for parking. The system counts the number of cars entering not the number of spaces occupied. So the places for these people are free but the system has counted them as taken.

The last people to enter have completed the number allowed in the car park but are still circling looking for a free space.

d) If the electronic sign says SPACES but you cannot find a place:

This probably means somebody has entered without using their card
. In this case you will have to look for a place on another part of the campus. Do not park outside the permitted areas (pedestrian zones, spaces for people with reduced mobility or loading and unloading areas) will also lead to deactivation of the card for this car park.
