“Yes, it is peace!” pilot project promoted in schools near the university

The educational pilot project entitled "Sí que es pau!" [Yes, it is peace!] is an initiative by the School for a Culture of Peace and the Fundació Autònoma Solidària. The project invited children from six schools of the Vallès Occidental region that participate in the CROMA 2.0 programme to reflect on armed conflicts and their role in peacebuilding.

The Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) and the School for a Culture of Peace (ECP) launch the Sí que és pau!, educational project connected to the CROMA 2.0 project. The aim of the project is to help primary school children understand armed conflits and the tools needed to act as peace agents. The project was developed between February and March of this year and involved six volunteers from the FAS, who made it possible to carry out the sessions in the participating centres.
The initiative was implemented in six schools near the university—Sant Martí and Serraparera (Cerdanyola), Montessori and Pau Casals (Rubí), and Nova Electra and Sant Llorenç del Munt (Terrassa)—following a four-week schedule with sessions from Monday to Thursday.
The project is based on a central idea: war has global impacts and children and young people need to be given the tools to understand it and act on it. Through six sessions, students explored concepts such as direct and structural violence, International Humanitarian Law, military spending, conscientious objection, and peace initiatives, and they learned the stories of activists from Gaza, Israel, South Africa and Spain.
Learning process was audiovisually documented
As part of the project an explanatory video recorded at the Montessori School in Rubí was created, which includes one of the work sessions with students. The piece allows viewers to see closely the development of the educational proposal and how the space for reflection is generated in the classroom.
The video features the participation of Cecile Barbeito, from the School of Culture of Peace, as well as two volunteers from the FAS, Ivet Pomés and Alberto León, who led the activities. The piece incorporates the voices of some of the students, who share their reflections on issues such as conscientious objection. In addition, some reflections from UAB students on how this pilot test has gone are collected.
The project received the support of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD) of the Government of Catalonia.
