Functional diversity and prison: beyond deprivation of liberty

A round table that will tackle functional diversity and prison from the point of view of the module DAE-DID of the Quatre Camins prison.

Next February 18th from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. it will take place the seminar “Functional diversity and prison: beyond deprivation of liberty”, a round table promoted by the Justice program of the UAB foundation Fundación Autónoma Solidaria (FAS). It aims to raise awareness about people with functional diversity experience in prison. Moreover, it is intended to break the stigmas related to prison and mental health, to provide critical thinking on this topic, and give visibility to a reality quite unknown in our society.

The event will be moderated by Ricardo Esteban, Vice-Dean of Academic Ordination and Coordinator of Law Studies of the UAB and it will feature the participation of the coordinator of DAE-DID module and the volunteering referent of this module in Quatre Camins prison; of the DAE-DID psychologist; of two persons incarcerated who will explain their first-person experience; and a FAS volunteer in this module.

DAE-DID is the Department of Specialized Care for Intellectual Disabilities or Development. It is a module of the Quatre Camins prison, in Roca del Vallès (in Barcelona province), that provides attention and intervention to people incarcerated belonging to this collective. The aim is to offer specialized and integral support, avoid possible situations of risk and abuse, and ensure their social rehabilitation.
