The FAS’ Programa Acollida has been working for two years on strengthening the role of UAB in the defense of asylum-seekers’ rights. For this reason, this year’s Festa Major has got several activities related to this topic in order to raise awareness on refugees’ rights as well as to make them more visible.

Under the slogan #UABrefugi: l’Autònoma acull, on 8 November some beneficiaries from the Programa Acollida, that are now living in Vila, will kick off the FM2018 with the Festa Major’s presentation speech. This will be the first space intended to encourage thinking about how we can transform university for it to be an educational and truly inclusive social space.

Furthermore, Programa Acollida will present the activity “University: a place free of racism?”, which you can visit from 1 p.m to 4 p.m in Plaça Cívica. There will be a closed circuit with four spaces for participants to reflect on the issue of racism in university and their own prejudices and behaviours towards it.

Both Programa Acollida associates and model specialists from Comissió Catalana d’Ajuda al Refugiat (CCAR), who work in Vila Universitària, will have a stall in Plaça Cívica where you will find information on UAB’s role in matters of refuge.

Besides being the Festa’s epicenter with Programa Acollida, Fundació Autònoma Solidària will also organize activities related to social action programmes spanning topics like environment, health and justice.

From 1 p.m to 5 p.m, different activities will take place in Plaça Cívica: “Prison is no place for shelter”, an activity made to reflect on criminalization of migrants both in Catalonia and in Europe; also “Environmental migration: forced or voluntary?”

From 2 p.m to 9 p.m, we can find all activities related to FAS’ Health programme (“Programa Salut”) in Plaça del Coneixement. The stall called Xiringu will offer consultation and several sexual health tools like condoms and lubricants, breathalyzers, games and information about drugs, sexuality and genre. Health Agents will walk around to test people’s knowledge.
