University Debate League
2027 Edition
Rules of participation. 2027 Edition
The UAB University Debating League aims to encourage students to speak out through dialectical debate between various teams, which will have to defend a position for or against a topical issue.
Participants
Participation in the competition is open to all students studying at the UAB who are enrolled for the current 2026/2027 academic year. The competition will be held in teams, which must consist of a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 5. Teams must have an equal number of male and female members. Each student may only be part of one team. A maximum of 12 teams will be accepted, although the organisers will adapt the competition to suit the final number of participating teams. Each team must appoint a spokesperson, who will act as captain and liaise with the head judge and the competition organisers.
Registration
Interested students must complete the self-enrolment form via this link (pending) and attach a file listing the names of their team-mates, as well as the name of the contact person for the unit.
The pre-registration period will run from 15 to 30 October 2026.
Registration is on an individual basis and all team members must complete it.
Preparing for the debates
To help you prepare for your participation, we are offering two training sessions:
- Online during December, via a series of introductory videos. Upon completion, you will need to complete a questionnaire on the content.
- Face-to-face: a specific training session on 19 and 26 January from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm.
On the Student Participation Unit’s YouTube channel, you’ll find videos of competitions from previous years to help you prepare your presentations.
Dates
The competition will take place between 22 and 26 February 2027.
Language
The language of the debate will be Catalan.
Topic
The debate topic will be: Should housing prices be limited?
Competition format
The competition will consist of each participating team taking part in at least three debates and will be held in person at the UAB Theatre Hall.
The competition format will depend on the number of teams registered and will be specified in the Rules of the 18th UAB University Debate League 2027 Edition, which will be provided to participants.
Depending on the number of teams that ultimately take part, the number of days the competition lasts may vary, but will under no circumstances extend beyond the dates indicated.

To obtain academic recognition, students must:

The winning team
The winning team will represent the UAB in the University Debate League organised by the Xarxa Vives de Universitats (on 20, 21 and 22 April 2027, at the University of Girona). The organisers may consider the participation of teams from the 2026 edition in other inter-university competitions as representatives of the UAB. The organisers reserve the right to expand the composition of the team that took part in the inter-university competitions to include members from other teams that participated in the 2027 edition.
