The FTI and the DTIEAO will host the 5th Congress of the Spanish Association for East Asian Studies (AEEAO)

The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) and the Department of Translation and Interpreting and East Asian Studies (DTIEAO) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona will be the venue for the 5th Conference of the Spanish Association for East Asian Studies (AEEAO), which will take place from January 25 to 27, 2027. This conference, organized by AEEAO, will serve as a forum to share research across various disciplines and will provide an opportunity to reflect on the present and future of East Asian studies in a global context marked by social, economic, political, and cultural changes. 

The AEEAO is an organization that promotes the study of East Asia from interdisciplinary approaches, integrating areas such as the humanities, social sciences, linguistics, culture, economics, international relations, translation, and intercultural mediation. Founded ten years ago, AEEAO has played a key role in consolidating a network of researchers who are dedicated to the in-depth and detailed analysis of the realities of the societies in this region. 

The call for panel proposals is now open. The organisation of panels is one of the new features introduced in this edition of the conference, aiming at fostering networking and synergies. The conference will especially encourage proposals with an interdisciplinary and multiregional focus.  

From April 15, the general call for papers will open with two modalities: papers and posters. The key dates for proposal submission are as follows: 

• Panel proposal submission period: March 1–21, 2026 
• Notification of panel acceptance: April 15, 2026 
• Abstract submission period (papers and posters): April 15–May 15, 2026 
• Notification of abstract acceptance: September 7, 2026 
• Registration period: September 15–November 15, 2026 

The conference will be a space for reflection and collaboration, with the aim of continuing to advance the study of East Asia and contributing to the transfer of knowledge, strengthening the ties between academia and society.
