WEL: compartint resultats i experiències

On Monday, June 16, the WEL Project local event took place at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting and East Asian Studies at the UAB. Representatives and users from various organizations and associations, such as Som Fundació, Fundació Astres and Associació Catalana de Dislèxia, participated in the event. The aim was to share the project’s progress and results and define the next steps.

The WEL Project  (From written to oral texts in Easy Language: easy audios in cultural visits and video games) is a three-year project (2023-2026), led by Carme Mangiron and Anna Matamala (from TransMedia Catalonia research group) at the UAB. The project’s main objective is to improve communicative accessibility through the study and creation of easy audios, using video games and cultural visits as case studies.

After a brief institutional welcome by the Dean of the Faculty, Simona Škrabec, the project team members presented the project’s progress in the Jordi Arbonès room. The event was also attended by people with intellectual disabilities and dyslexia, who participated in the project’s experiments and tests, allowing them to experience firsthand the impact of their participation in the research. The event continued with a guided tour of the faculty facilities to places like the Japanese garden and interpretation booths.

Finally, the event concluded with an open mic, during which future actions and ideas for the project’s continuation were proposed. One of the proposals that generated the most interest was the organization of a cultural outing in the spring of 2026 with Som Fundació users.

The event was highly rated by all attendees. It was an enriching opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences in an inclusive and collaborative environment. Events like this highlight that research results must be communicated in an accessible way, especially to all those who have participated in the research.
