Ravetllat Pla Collection

The Ravetllat-Pla Institute was founded in 1919 by the veterinarian and serologist Joaquim Ravetllat i Estech and the physician and politician Ramon Pla i Armengol. The institution, dedicated to the research and production of drugs against tuberculosis (such as the famous Ravetllat-Pla Haemo-antitoxin), became a scientific, industrial and commercial benchmark in pharmacology in Catalonia during the first third of the 20th century.

To disseminate its medical theories and research, the institute promoted the publication of several periodicals and popular science magazines, which had a great impact and distribution both nationally and internationally (especially in Latin America).

Collection description: The Ravetllat Pla periodicals collection comprises the set of periodical publications edited and promoted by the Ravetllat-Pla Institute-Laboratory. The collection includes issues and collections from landmark titles such as the Revista de Tisiología and the Nuevo Boletín Médico Ravetllat-Pla, among other publications specialising in veterinary medicine, medicine, bacteriology and tuberculosis. These collections constitute a documentary source of great value for the study of the history of science, medicine and the pharmaceutical industry in 20th-century Catalonia.
