The first UAB Game Day is coming!

With the aim of bringing university students closer to the different possibilities that board games and video games offer for deepening research and knowledge, the UAB libraries will host, throughout the day April 15, an event with demonstrations on how games with very diverse themes work. We encourage you to check out the game collection!

UAB GAME DAY ACTIVITIES

Communication Library and General Newspaper Archive

Location: COMTEC Video Game Center and Service, 2nd floor of the Library

Time: 11:00–19:00

The library will display and explain how to play board games related to the field of communication. For example, games about journalism (Pulitzer), photography (Red Carpet), radio (Días de Radio), film (Spoilers, Black Stories), and television (El Joc de TV3). The games will be available to play.

At the Video Game Service, a selection of video games related to communication will also be shown, available on the Steam platform.

Science and Technology Library

Location BCT Space

Time: 10:00–16:00

The library will dedicate the space to sessions where staff will explain how to play a selection of games available in the collection. Classified by type:

• Fast-paced and mathematical: Ubongo, Quarto
• Intermediate: Embosca't, Wingspan, Memòria dels Ocells de Catalunya and Fita (special session by Josep Oriol Carol, creator of the game; from 12pm to 2pm).
• Genetics: PhyloGenome (special session led by Sònia Casillas, Vice-Dean for Students of the Faculty of Sciences and creator of the game). From 10h to 12h.

Social Sciences Library

Location: Floor 0

Time: 10:00–14:00

At the Social Sciences Library we have found footprints and a dead body on the floor… we need sharp minds to solve this crime. Can you help?

Library staff will demonstrate the game Crimen de Quintana de la Matanza.

You will also have the chance to be among the first to open the games Cluedo, The Resistance, and Pandemic. Are you ready for an unboxing?

Veterinary Library

Location: Game space

Time: 13:00–15:00

The library invites you to try the new virtual reality glasses and enjoy an immersive and relaxing experience to reflect, from a One Health perspective, on the connection between human, animal, and environmental health.

We begin with Pollinator Park, an experience that transports you to a dystopian future where pollinators have disappeared, to discover how their absence affects the entire food chain and our own well-being.

Then we continue with Honeybee VR, where you will completely change perspective and explore the world through the eyes of a bee, understanding its essential role in the ecosystem.

There will also be matches of Memòria dels Ocells de Catalunya, a memory game promoted by scientific illustrator Àlex Mascarell, created to learn in an enjoyable and entertaining way about the different bird species in our region.

The Humanities Library invites you to the Periodicals Room to travel through history with board games. From prehistory, with Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers or Stone Age, to the 20th century with Votes for Women or Twilight Struggle, passing through ancient empires with Mediterranean Empires.

The library will once again become a scene of intrigue with a new activity full of mystery, puzzles, and deduction.

The story:

A murder has been committed in the building. The trial is tonight, but the library closes in half an hour. There is no time for police or long investigations — only you can solve the case. Become detectives and discover who the killer is before it is too late… but be careful, the culprit may be closer than you think.

A unique experience to test your ingenuity, work as a team, and discover the library in a different way.
