Student fanzine exhibition: "The gaze with and in the world", at the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives
On January 19, students of the Interactive Communication degree will exhibit the photozines they have produced as a project for the Theory and Technique of Photography subject.
The COMTEC Centre, on the second floor of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Library, will host the presentation of the photozines created by students of the Theory and Technique of Photography course from the UAB Interactive Communication degree programme on Monday 19 January at 3.30 pm. The presentation is entitled "The gaze with and in the world: fanzines on conflict and contemporary self-image".
The project, led by Professor Adriana Monroy Galindo, has been developed within the framework of a seminar in collaboration with the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives.
The exhibition is structured as a dialogue between two ways of looking at contemporary images that complement each other. On the one hand, there is a gaze that opens up to the collective, attentive to current war conflicts and the images that circulate, are repeated and rearranged in the media. On the other hand, there is a closer, more introspective gaze that explores self-image and self-portraiture as ways of visually situating oneself in the present.
Far from being considered separate spheres, both perspectives are intertwined and mutually supportive. In fanzines and photozines, the personal and the collective are thought of together, giving rise to practices of editing and visual thinking that understand the image as a form of involvement: a perspective that is not situated outside what it observes, but is constructed with and in the world it inhabits.
