The 1st UAB Open Science Day will take place on October 28, from 9:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the Rectorate Auditorium.

1st Open Science Day

For several years, our University has been actively promoting open science — an innovative, networked, collaborative, and transparent approach to scientific research. To advance this commitment and make it public, in January 2024 the Governing Council approved the UAB Open Science Strategy and Commitments

Since then, the Open Science Advisory Committee has been established and begun its work, developing an Action Plan to promote open science across the University. Among the actions already undertaken, we would like to highlight the creation of the Open Science Thermometer and the organisation of this very conference, both of which aim to enhance our understanding of the principles and benefits of open science — for us as individuals and for society as a whole.

We will begin the conference by reporting on how the open science movement is progressing globally and the actions being taken locally. The new methods for evaluating research at the university and the content of the Barcelona Declaration will be discussed, as the University has signed the European initiatives CoARA, which aims to bring about systemic change in research evaluation, and the Barcelona Declaration, which seeks to work with infrastructures that make it possible for research information to be open.
