Joan Massià Collection

Joan Massià i Prats (Barcelona, 1890–1969) was a Catalan violinist, composer and pedagogue. He began his musical training with his mother before continuing his studies at the Brussels Conservatory. He went on to pursue a career as a concert violinist, performing in several European countries.

Alongside his solo career, he promoted chamber music through initiatives such as a string quartet founded in 1918. He also collaborated with the pianist Blanca Selva in concerts devoted to the works of Bach and Beethoven. At the same time, he taught at the Barcelona Conservatory of Music.

His personal collection was donated to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where it is currently being processed. Until this process is complete, please contact the Humanities Library by email to enquire about its availability.
