Last Wednesday, June 4, the final session of the Microbial Genomics subject took place, where fourth-year students of the Genetics and Microbiology degrees presented posters on population genomics in bacterial infectious diseases.

The students worked on projects related to the application of genomics and bacterial population genetics to respond to current problems in the field of health.

The session took place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Rosalind Franklin Classroom of the IBB, and a total of 5 posters were presented:

  • Molecular and genomic characterization of the ST612 lineage of S.aureus: from population structure to new therapeutic strategies. A. Baracco Onu, M. Guasch, M. Suau, L. López, A. Molina, J. Vaquerizo.
  • Global study of evolutionary dynamics and selective pressures in Neisseria meningitidis for the improvement of vaccine strategies. P. Dolcet, P. Espadalé, E. García, C. Jaime and A. López.Global Study of Burkholderia pseudomallei Genomic Epidemiology Rooted in Southeast Asia. I. Calvo, A. Cobos, V. Fernández, É. García, J. Ortiz and M. Pedra.
  • Genomic and phenotypic study of Helicobacter pylori in South Asia and proposal for vaccine design. J. Bächtold, I. Caba, C. Camacho, I. Codina, M. López, M. Martinez.
  • Epidemiological study of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates in South Africa and the effect of vaccination in the population. M.Basart, E. Calaveras, A. Jiménez, M. Martínez, C. Romeo.

The session ended with a coffee break so that attendees could chat and network with each other.

This activity is part of the Bacterial Genomics subject and was organized by the head of the subject: professor and researcher Daniel Yero.
