Inaugural Conference: "Knowing the Territory, Imagining the Future"

The inaugural session of the Master’s Degree in Territorial Studies and Planning and the Master’s Degree in Geoinformation will take place on Thursday 17 September 2026 at 5.00 pm in the Degree Room of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at UAB.

The central event will be the lecture “Understanding the territory, imagining the future”, delivered by Professor Jordi Corbera, Head of the Earth Observation Area at the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya.

The lecture “Understanding the territory, imagining the future” invites us to reflect on the role of territory and geoinformation as essential tools for understanding current challenges and building more sustainable futures. It will show how data and maps can become instruments for interpreting reality and guiding decision-making.

The lecture will explore how geospatial information can be used to address key issues such as climate change, mobility, water management, housing and local development, while highlighting the importance of transforming data into useful knowledge for society.

Beyond technology, the lecture will invite us to reflect on concepts such as causality, the relationship between time and space, the role of creativity in innovation, and the need for knowledge infrastructures, such as the master's degree in Geoinformation and METIP, in the development of major collective projects.
