Professors Marta Salla and Manel Monsonet to lead a new teaching innovation project funded by the UAB Training Unit.

On July 1, the results of the 2026-27 Call for Teaching Innovation and Quality Projects (IQD), promoted by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), were announced. The project Avaluació del treball autònom en l’era de la IA generativa: del producte al procés (Projecte Athena), led by Department lecturers Marta Salla Martínez and Manel Monsonet Bardají, was selected for funding. The project will begin to be implemented during the

2026-27 academic year in the first-year course Personality and Individual Differences, with the possibility of being extended to other courses in 2027-28. Other members of the Department participating in the project include Albert Feliu Soler, Adrián Pérez Aranda, Lorena Chanes Puiggròs, and Pilar Torrecilla González.

The project proposes a teaching innovation aimed at rethinking the assessment of written group assignments within the current university context, characterized by the growing incorporation of generative artificial intelligence into learning processes. The initiative will initially be applied in the first-year undergraduate Psychology course Personality and Individual Differences at UAB, involving approximately 390 students. It arises from the need to ensure the genuine acquisition of knowledge and competencies in contexts where students use AI tools to develop academic work. The proposed approach shifts the focus of assessment from the final product to the learning process itself. To achieve this, practical activities will be redesigned to incorporate strategies that make the knowledge-construction process visible, highlight individual contributions within group work, and document decision-making regarding the use of AI tools.

The project's ultimate goal is to promote a critical and reflective use of AI while strengthening students’ active engagement and shared responsibility in collaborative work. Finally, the project includes knowledge-transfer and dissemination activities aimed at university teaching staff and has been designed to be adaptable to other courses that use group or individual assignments as part of their assessment system.
