Classification of biological wastes

Non-biohazardous biological wastes are considered to be those that contain group 1 BA (non-GMO) with a very low capacity to cause infection, allergy or toxicity in humans, animals or plants, and which are not hazardous for the environment.

Biohazardous biological wastes are considered to be those containing risk group 2 BA or above, and therefore with capacity to cause an infection, allergy or toxicity in humans, animals or plants, or present a risk to the environment. This also include genetically modified organisms (GMOs) for any risk group.
