During the month of February and up to mid-March, the UAB will open to the public two exhibitions by two very different contemporary artists: Margarita Andreu, who dealt with the concept of space in her work; and Marika Vila, a comics artist deeply committed to the gender struggle and to breaking feminine stereotypes.

The exhibition Space and Light: Workshop Materials is meant as a tribute to Margarita Andreu (1953 to 2013), and it provides an opportunity not only to see works of hers that deal with space, light and emptiness using completely different styles, but also to visit her own personal workshop: the place where she conceived and produced all her work.

The exhibition can be seen at the UAB Exhibitions Hall, on the ground floor of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives. The official opening was on Tuesday 26 January, including a presentation of the exhibition by two of its curators: Teresa Camps Miró (PhD in Art from the UAB) and Lilianna Marín de Mas (Margarita Andreu Archive).

As from 1 February, it will also be possible to see the exhibition Woman's Voice Breaking Stereotypes by Marika Vila. This artist chose comics as a vehicle for staking her claims and making her woman's voice heard in a traditionally masculine world. The exhibition reveals the empowerment of her female figures, who break the stereotype in which women are usually portrayed.

This exhibition can be seen in the Exhibition Space of the UAB Theatre (Plaça Cívica) from 1 February to 15 March.
