This year's edition of the THE 250 under 50 ranking, now known as the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, which classifies the world's top 250 universities founded 50 years ago or less, places the Universitat AutÚnoma de Barcelona in 13th position, up five points from last year's ranking. It is the second top university in Spain after the Pompeu Fabra University which ranks 11.
The ranking is led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the …cole Polytechnique Fťdťrale of Lausanneand the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.
The classification applies the same indicators as the general THE World University Rankings, with an evaluation of a total of 13 indicators on teaching and research quality, number of citations, internationalisation, as well as technology transfer, based on income recieved through agreements with companies. The methodology however has been recalibrated slightly to lower the weight of university reputation, in order to reflect the unique characteristics of younger universities.
