On 22 May at 3:30 p.m., there will be a debate on surrogacy or surrogate pregnancy at the Sala d’Actes of the Faculty of Biosciences. Surrogacy is a method or agreement whereby a woman agrees to carry a pregnancy, by in vitro fertilization, for another person or persons, who will become the newborn child's parent or parents after birth.

This method is currently illegal in Spain, but the existing debate between supporters and opponents is attracting huge media attention. In this context, the ASBTEC group organizes a debate where experts will provide different points of view.

At the debate, 4 speakers will reflect on this issue, some in favour and some against: Maria Casado, chair of the Centre d’Investigació Observatori de Bioètica i Dret (OBD); Montse Boada, chair of the Labs for in vitro, andrology and preimplantational genetic diagnosis at the Quiron-Dexeus Hospital; Juan Tecles, international CEO of CT-Fertility, an American firm who has been delivering reproduction treatments to its clients since 1991, such as surrogacy; and Noelia Igareda, Ph.D. in Law by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Don’t miss out on this interesting debate!
