Great success at the second of the series of #debatspublicaXXI debates. The debate on 22 February revolved around student’s rights and duties. The aim of this debate was to review and discuss current regulation regarding university students’ rights and duties. It is an initiative proposed by the Office of the vice-rector for Students and Employability.

The second of the series of #debatspublicaXXI debates revolved around student’s rights and duties, and sought to make known de regulations currently governing the university students’ rights and duties. The debate on 22 February was divided into two parts. The first part took place at 11 a.m. and reflected on the rights and duties that students have. The second part took place at 12:20 a.m. and reflected on “What rights and duties would we like to have as students?”

At the first round-table, Lluís Forcadell, ex-coordinador of the CEUCAT, presented the Bill of Students’ Rights and Duties by the CEUCAT, a document endorsed by the Catalan Universities’ Student Council. Forcadell also presented the Students’ Statute, which highlights the students’ role in his own training. The secretary of Students’ Coordination and member of the Faculty of Communication Sciences’ Student Council, Eduard Cecilia, presented then the Code of good practice for UAB teachers and students. This document deals with educational planning and assessment.

At the second round-table, all the groups running for the UAB Senate made different proposals to improve the students’ rights and duties. Some of the concerns that arose had to do with the efficiency of the teaching guides and its actual implementation, the students’ right to access other documentation on the degree they’re studying and the need to eradicate comparative harm among faculties.

The aim of the #debatspublicaXXI debates is to create a platform for debate where students can have their say and express their ideas, complaints and demands in relation to the situation of public universities in the 21st century.
